Lev Vygotsky and Modern Childhood
In 2016 L.S. Vygotsky`s 120th anniversary is celebrated. L.S. Vygotsky is a worldwide known Soviet psychologist who made a great contribution to psychology, pedagogy and defectology. In connection with the anniversary the Moscow State University of Psychology & Education (MSUPE) and the Institute of Education HSE are planning to conduct the Symposium "L. S. Vygotsky and modern childhood". The objectives of the Symposium include creating a space for dialogue within the Russian and international psychological and pedagogical community, the actualization of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the conducted research in the area of modern childhood.
The main objectives of the Symposium include analysis and discussion of the notions that describe a child, childhood and growing up period typical for the first half of the 20th century and early 21st century; reflection of the use of concepts of cultural-historical theory in contemporary studies of childhood and maturation.
Abstracts and applications for participation are accepted until September 30, 2016 in the framework of the following 7 themes:
1. Childhood and adulthood.
Key discussion topics: transformation of the childhood with the change of historical eras and sociocultural contexts; socio-cultural and artistic image of childhood in different historical periods; the overview of normative and non-normative trajectories of maturation.
2. New institutional forms of maturation.
Key discussion topics: the multiplicity of forms of existence of the family, "new parenthood", change of the goals and role of the family in the socialization of a child; the multiplicity of forms of school existence, the variability of the interaction between family and school, non-school forms of education, the features of the modern social situation of development of the child.
3. New technologies and social situation of development.
Key discussion topics: social networks and gadgets as tools of mediated interaction; the influence of social networks, messengers, forums on the development the image of oneself and others; the Internet as an alternative social environment.
4. Childhood in different environments.
Key discussion topics: geographical space of maturation; children's everyday mobility in different social contexts; connection of microgeography data with indicators of psychological maturity; everyday life of children and teenagers in urban and rural environment; parental control, attitudes and children's degree of freedom at different ages and in different places.
5. The history of childhood.
Key discussion topics: the changing of perceptions of a happy childhood and the proper pedagogical, psychological, social, legal support of child development on the level of functioning of the state and private social institutions; the daily life of the child and adolescent in different historical periods.
6. Training and development.
Key discussion topics: classical and non-classical thinking in developmental psychology; ontogeny and functional genesis; the problem of the deployment of mediation of supports and field of action; collective forms of mastering; jointly-distributed action; trial action and its initiation.

The Editorial Board has the right to refuse publication of abstracts wich do not correspond to the problems of the conference, as well as those that do not meet requirements of this Information Letter and requirements for scientific publications
